There never seem to be enough time at home to do my own stuff these days.
complaining is an impulse that is worth suppressing
Linnea (one of the best roomates I've had) helped me with choosing the name of this blog, as she has helped me sift through her mental thesaurus for appropriate words for various things I've written in college; but hey this is just a blog. I just need two words. Verdan Dweller. Fresh to the city, fresh to life. That's what I'm trying to say.

dealing with work life
I have always thought that my emotional maturity is enough to help me adapt to the real working world. Yes I know, you've told me a hundred times: college is different from real life. But I am an adaptive and high-achieving college graduate, how hard can it be to transition into the working world?
Wrong. As work got more stressful at the beginning of my second work-week, I realize that I need to break out of a lot of good-ol'-college habits and mentalities in order to adapt to my new work life.
Need to do it My Way
Can-do attitude:
enduring through boring/ irritating/ stressful work:
develop new ways to relieve stress
working with restrictive time and space framework

how to choose a job?
IF you are a lucky one who received more than one job offer; or if you are like me, just musing over different potential (a.k.a. imaginary) job opportunities: what factors will you take into consideration?

you're tempted to scrap it all and plan another show
it's just another work in progress,
the promise comes so slow
...
neither of us would admit,
we always quit before we fail
...
this is all I ask you for,
summon the strength to stay,
I'm already on my way
"Already on my way" www.marcbarnhill.com
wake up soon for the sixth day at work

College has gotten me so used to email communications that I am having problems managing my phone calls.
After a lot of leaving each other voice messages, I finally talked to her on the phone today. I have never met her, but I am very interested in the non-profit organization she works at, and have been trying to connect with her to see if she can help me get involved in their work or give me some advice on how to find an interesting non-profit path like hers. It is a little sad to confirm that I won't be able to intern with them given my current schedule, but I will continue to work towards getting involved in non-profits in the city.
On a "more important" note, I started work today. I got rained on by a downpour of information, but that's okay since most of my now-colleagues have to re-learn the system along with me anyways. It's really interesting to get to know what happens behind the scenes after you order a piece of clothing from an online site, and figuring out how the ordering and inventory systems work is like working on puzzle set (or, even more fun, clicking around in statistical softwares) that it's intriguing though potentially tedious.
I started browsing some fashion blogs and shopping site after work, and they opened my eyes to a new world - or in more appropriate lingo, new lifestyle. I still have to work hard and guard myself against the very fashion-fetishism that created my job; if I choose, I can dive straight into this new lifestyle, and it wouldn't be a hard thing to do in this consumerism-flooded metropolitan. But from the bottom of my heart I still feel the yearning to do something for a broader purpose; for the betterment of a life other than your own; and to find a space in the city where self-gain and personal-ambition aren't the dominant language.
I hope my friend will be willing to draw an image of overgrowing roof gardens for my blog.
